One sport that you might not have considered taking up is game fishing. When you think of fishing, you might think of sitting on a boring jetty all day catching tiny little fish. Well, game fishing is nothing like that! Game fishing is an exciting sport that takes skill and is very challenging – perfect to help take your mind off work!

Game Fishing – The Challenge

Game fishing is a sport that has become increasingly popular over the years. It was initially thought up when the power boat was invented, and since then has become one of the most exciting forms of fishing around. Historically, people have fished in order to get food to feed their families, but these days fishing is often seen as a sport. In fact, when game fishing, some fishermen release the fish after they have caught it! Game fishing is more about the challenge of catching that big, elusive fish, rather than actually having the fish. While it is popular these days for people to spend their leisure time sitting in front of a television, for people who prefer more challenging pursuits, game fishing can often fit the bill.

Game Fishing – The Basics

If you have never been game fishing before, then you will probably not fully understand what it involves. When you first head out game fishing, you will leave on a boat that has been specifically set up for the purpose. These are not little tin can boats! They are high-class power boats that have all the features and equipment that you will need to have a successful game fishing trip. The boat will have smooth controls and be able to maneuver well in the water. It will often be set up with special game fishing equipment – such as game fishing chairs. A game fishing chair is a place where a fisherman can sit in order to give him better leverage when he is trying to reel in a fish. Everything that you need should be ready in the boat and at hand when necessary.

Game Fishing – What it Involves

There are two basic ways to go about game fishing. The most popular way is called trolling. This involves running fishing lines from the back of the boat, with bait attached. As the boat moves through the water it attracts game fish, who think that the lines are actually living food for them to eat. The fish will then speed up to catch the food in it’s mouth, and instead is caught on the hook that is attached to the line. Getting the fish to hook itself on the line is a challenge within itself, but the real effort starts after this. In a technique called "fighting the fish", the trouble now is how to get the fish into the boat. Game fish are large and heavy, and likely to fight to avoid getting taken on board your boat. This is where that game fishing chair comes in handy – it allows you to get better leverage on the boat so that you can pull the fish out of the water.

Game Fishing – What to do With the Fish

Even if a fish bites and you attempt to get it into your boat, there is no guarantee that it will work! This is why game fishing is considered to be such a challenging sport. The fish needs to be hooked just right, and you need to be skilled in fighting to get out of the water. However, it is not impossible to catch the fish, even if you are just starting out as a fisherman. The question is, what do you do with the fish when you have it? As we mentioned earlier, many people fish simply for the love of the sport, and throw the fish back once they have caught it, only stopping to log and photograph it. This means that the fish population is not depleted. However, many other people choose to keep the fish to cook and eat, and that is acceptable too. The main thing is that you have respect for the environment – if you will eat the fish then it is fine to take it. However, if the fish will not be eaten, then it is wasteful to take it out of it’s natural environment.
